dcVAST Practice Brief - Design Services

The Business Situation

To often businesses spend a great deal of time on new IT initiatives focusing on application functionality and how it aligns with the business goals. And when it comes to selecting the infrastructure on which to run the applications, minimal time is spent. Servers get stitched together to run the software, an existing network is used to connect the servers with the users, and security is assumed to work as is. This approach to solving the technology need typically results in problems with poor performing applications, user response times that are totally unacceptable, inability to expand the environment to accommodate business growth, and many more.

The IT Challenge

The IT staff is left to solve all of the problems on the fly after moving the infrastructure into production. Infrastructure is unstable and poorly performing, thus starving the users and keeping them from the proper access to the new application and benefits. IT is left with the ongoing cost that results from improper designs.

The dcVAST Approach

dcVAST business structure allows the benefit of a natural feedback loop that comes from being involved in the complete service lifecycle of technology projects. During the support period, we see the results of our design and implementation activities, uncovering any inefficiencies or instabilities that are created. We can correct those issues and incorporate the corrections into our designs in the next project. We just keep getting better at delivering solid infrastructure, based on best practices of simplicity, serviceability and survivability.

Our engineers review the results of the assessment activity before beginning to design infrastructure solutions. We blend the best technologies and methods, together with the business needs, to create an optimal solution.

We look at current infrastructure investments and where possible incorporate existing technologies with new to minimize costs and increase the return on investment.

The results of our designs always include a bill of material for the specific technology components to be deployed, a full implementation plan incorporating customer personnel and dcVAST personnel, and a service and management plan.

dcVAST, when necessary, will also conduct "proof of concept" pilots to empirically prove that the proposed solution will deliver the desired results.
